Vida Rica Bar at Mandarin Oriental, Macau launches Volume Two – Movies & Cocktails

The launch of Volume Two – Movies & Cocktails follows the successful debut of the bar’s first themed cocktail menu Volume One – Legends & Cocktails, in 2018.
Exploring Macau’s rich and distinctive culture for cocktail ideas, the team at Vida Rica Bar discovered Cinemateca Paixão, a boutique cinema with cinematographic library, which houses a treasure trove of local art-house classics. Inspired by their find, the bar team has created a special menu of 11 cocktails, each named after one of the 11 films that most caught their eye and given a modern, flavoursome twist based on that picture’s defining characteristics.
In keeping with Vida Rica Bar’s commitment to serving world-class cocktails, the menu features extraordinary garnishes using the finest ingredients and, occasionally, surprising presentation elements.

- Gin, Sake, Margarita
A Film by Peeko Wong about three artists who meet in a bar, each wanting an answer to the question, why do they make art? Gin, Sake, Margarita and Lemon Bitters combine to give this cocktail a dry, sour taste, with a strong, delicious punch.
Memories linger for two friends needing to face reality in this award-winning film by Tracy Choi. With smoky and sour characteristics, the cocktail is made with Michter’s Bourbon, Mezcal, Golden Pineapple and Aloe Vera.
- The Last Time I Saw Macao
Two filmmakers return to Macau on a journey of discovery in this contemporary work. João Pedro Rodrigues and João Rui Guerra da Mata re-enter the city-labyrinth, multicultural and mysterious, where their childhood memories are there to greet them. The cocktail is fizzy, citrusy and made with VRB’s Rum, Aperol Falernum, Ginseng Liqueur, Lemon and Ginger Beer.
- The Age of Hangover
A bittersweet cocktail reflecting the bored youths and their nights and hangovers in this film by Mike Ao Ieong. Made with Pandan Gin, Raspberry Amaro, Plum Liqueur, Dry Vermouth and Rhubarb.
A film by Penny Lam about two illegal workers, whose ways, wealth and lives merge in Macau. A smoky, sour cocktail made with Wax Aged Japanese Oak Whisky, Bee’s Limoncello, Tao Jiao Syrup and Orange Bitters.
- Passing Rain
Lorence Chan’s first feature film is about six characters who have each lost something that they eventually find it again. Their lives intertwine and the events in which they are involved form part of a larger cosmic plan. With smooth and fruity flavours, the cocktail’s ingredients include Papaya Tequila, Gentian Liqueur, Guava, Matcha Syrup and Champagne Cordial.
- Empire Hotel
The Empire Hotel is a landmark in Macau’s old town, and this thriller by Ivo M Ferreira adopts noir-style scenes of Macau’s past and present. Featuring Coconut Rum, Seedlip Grove 42, Banana Wine, Lime Cordial and Hazelnut Spray, this drink has nutty and tropical flavours.
- Tricycle Thief
Embarking on an adventure with a local tricycle driver, who goes on a desperate hunt for money after being issued with an eviction notice, Maxim Bessmertny’s film is represented as a cocktail with Nai Lao Vodka, Bergamot Wine, Cherry Liqueur and Rice Orgeat, giving it a fluffy, electric and complex texture.
- Macao Dealer
Telling the story of a casino croupier caught up in his routine of shaking dice and distributing chips, this animation by Sam Kin Hang reveals what happens when the man crosses into his fantasy world and turns into a dice. Seedlip Grove 42 and Grapefruit Cordial are two of the components that give this mixed drink a smoky, sour taste.
In this recently released short animation by Jay Lei, the character of Luke climbs up a deserted lighthouse to light up the city’s hidden memories. Fermented and fizzy, this cocktail features Pineapple Kombucha, Geisha Syrup and Coconut Soda.
Filmmaker Lou Ka Choi’s animation examines Macau’s traditional values and typical relationships between family members. With sweet and fruity flavours, this cocktail contains Gin, Mango Juice, Clarified Yoghurt, Calamansi, Caramel and Almond Foam.
Vida Rica Bar opens daily from 5pm to 12am on Monday to Thursday and 5pm to 1am on Friday and Saturday.
